Three Healthy Dips: Guacamole, Houmous & Salsa

As the Christmas parties begin, it’s great to have some healthy alternatives to pastry-wrapped, high calorie buffet foods. Here are three dips which are quick, easy, and healthy.

 

Guacamole:

Peel, de-stone & chop 2-3 ripe avocados & squeeze juice of 1 lemon over the avocado. Mash with a fork to the consistency you require. Finely chop 1 de-seeded tomato and a quarter of a red onion. Mix into the avocado, along with a pinch ground cumin & a handful of chopped coriander. Mix & serve.

Houmous:

Drain & rinse 1 tin of chickpeas, then place them in a food processor with 2 tbsp lemon juice, 2 cloves crushed garlic, 1 tsp ground cumin, 100ml tahini (sesame seed paste) & 4 tbsp water. Season, then blend until creamy. Serve with paprika sprinkled on top.

Salsa:

Finely chop 250g tomatoes, 5 spring onions, 1 handful of coriander & 2 mild chillies (optional). Mix them together and add 1 tbsp water, season to taste & sprinkle with lemon juice. So easy!

 

All of these delicious dips can be served with warm wholemeal pitta bread, bread sticks, or crudités made from fresh, crunchy vegetables. They’ll brighten up your buffet table and you can feel good about how healthy they are 🙂
